Mr. Joseph E. Schulz

Deputy to the Commander

Joseph E. Schulz serves as the Deputy to the Commander.  He is a native of New York City, New York. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, holds a master’s of science degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a master’s of arts degree from the Naval War College, and a master’s degree from the U.S. Army War College. Mr. Schulz is also a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. His military schooling includes the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Engineer Officer Advanced Course, Army Command & General Staff College, Naval Command and Staff College, Joint Forces Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.

Mr. Schulz’s professional career has spanned over 40 years of service, both as a military officer and a Department of the Army Civilian. Upon retirement from the Army in 2008, Mr. Schulz served in the private sector where he was responsible for business development and marketing.  Mr. Schulz then entered federal civilian service, serving as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics / G4 and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans /  G-5, US Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal.  Mr. Schulz was then asked to serve as the Deputy Director for Installation Logistics where he helped manage a $1.4 billion installation logistics program prior to his assignment in Hawaii as the Chief, Support Operations.

Mr. Schulz’s civilian awards include the Superior Civilian Service Award, the Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Civilian Service Commendation Medal. Based upon his demonstrated professionalism and competence, Mr. Schulz was selected as a 2014 Louis Dellamonica Award winner and also as a FY17 Senior Enterprise Talent Management, Enterprise Placement Program, Option 2 (SES Detail) selectee. 

Mr. Schulz is married and they have two daughters.
