Colonel Matthew (Matt) Hamilton assumed command of the 406th AFSB in June 2018. COL Hamilton’s hometown is Lucasville, OH. He enlisted into the United States Army Reserve in 1990 as Cannon Crewman where he would spend his initial enlisted years in the 5th Battalion, 28th Field Artillery at Cincinnati, OH. COL Hamilton served as a Platoon Leader in the 1001st Field Service Company at Chillicothe, OH while a Cadet between 1993-1995.
In 1995 COL Hamilton was commissioned into the Regular Army, as a Second Lieutenant, United States Army Field Artillery; and assigned to 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, Fort Drum, NY as a Company Fire Support Officer. In 1998 COL Hamilton attended the Quartermaster Branch Transition Course and was subsequently assigned to 10th Forward Support Battalion, Fort Drum, NY as a Supply and Service Platoon Leader. Following his time at Fort Drum, COL Hamilton completed a tour in The Republic of South Korea as the Battalion S-4 for the 524th Military Intelligence Battalion at Camp Humphries. In 2001, COL Hamilton was assigned to Fort Bragg, NC and the 530th Logistics Task Force as the Company Commander of Headquarters and Supply Company (HSC). Subsequent to the events of Sep 11, 2001, COL Hamilton would lead HSC throughout a seven-month deployment initiating logistics structure and support at Karshi-Khanabad, Uzbekistan and Bagram, Afghanistan. This tour would include HSC’s tactical logistics support to the Coalition Joint Task Force – Mountain throughout Operation Anaconda in March 2002. In 2003, HSC deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of US Special Operations Command. COL Hamilton served as the Aide-de-camp to the Commanding General, 1st Corps Support Command, Fort Bragg, NC in 2003. Following his assignment at Fort Bragg, COL Hamilton served as a Joint Chiefs of Staff and Army Staff Intern in the Pentagon where he worked in J5 Deputy Directorate for the War on Terrorism and Army G8 Program Analysis and Evaluation Division. COL Hamilton served as the Brigade Support Battalion Support Operations Officer for 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Sharanna, Afghanistan in 2009. COL Hamilton completed command of the 3rd Group Support Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in 2015; and followed with a year as the Aide-de-camp to the Commanding General, United States Army Materiel Command. Prior to assuming Command of the 406th AFSB, COL Hamilton spent the previous year in Afghanistan serving as the Afghan National Defense Security Forces Operational Sustainment – Logistics Director within the Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan.
COL Hamilton is a Senior Service Collage graduate of The Eisenhower School; he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Rio Grande in Ohio, and a Master’s degree in Policy from Georgetown University.

COL Hamilton is married to the former Ann Marie Howard of Lucasville, Ohio.
