LTC Miguel A. Flores Rivera


Lieutenant Colonel Miguel A. Flores Rivera assumed the duties as commander of the U.S. Army Field Support
Battalion-Africa in June 2018.  

LTC Flores Rivera, raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico, graduated with a bachelor’s in business administration from
the University of Puerto Rico and commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Quartermaster Corps in December
2000.  He  served as platoon leader and company executive officer in the 157th Quartermaster Company, 553rd
Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, where  he deployed in support of OEF and OIF. He served a follow-on
assignment as Logistics Advisor to JTF Omega in Colombia in their efforts to curb narco-terrorism prior to 
commanding HHC, 266th Quartermaster Battalion at Fort Lee, Virginia.  After company command,

LTC Flores Rivera served as the 23rd Quartermaster Brigade S4 prior to a 15-month deployment to Iraq as the
Military Transition Team executive officer from 2009 - 2010 prior to joining the Sustainment Center of Excellence
team as an instructor/writer for Ordnance Officer Basic Leadership Course. 

At the field grade level, LTC Flores Rivera has served in TRADOC, FORSCOM, and NATO with assignments as
a battalion executive officer twice (71st Transportation Battalion and 49th Movement Control Battalion), SPO Supply
and Services chief (13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command), and as Movement and Transportation Branch lead
planner (Allied Joint Forces Command-Naples, Italy).  He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and
Operation Iraqi Freedom prior to serving as an operations officer in the Permanent Executive Secretariat of the American
Armies. His most recent assignments in theG4, U.S. Army South, allowed him to leverage previous experience with
Colombia as our two nations executed the first combined airborne operations as part of a dynamic force employment.

LTC Flores Rivera is a graduate of Petroleum Officers Course, Military and Advance Military Transition Team Course,
SPO Phase I and II, and the NATO Operations Planning Course in addition to all requisite Professional Military Education

In addition to his bachelor’s, he holds a master’s in administration from the Central Michigan University and a Lean Six
Sigma Black Belt.

His awards and decorations include: the two Bronze Stars, three Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation
Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal,
National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Camping Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, two Global War on Terrorism
Expeditionary Medals, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, four Overseas Service Ribbons,
and the NATO Medal.

LTC Flores Rivera is married and has a daughter and son.
