COL Larry R. Dean


Colonel Larry R. Dean assumed command of the 406th Army Field Support Brigade July 2022. 

He most recently served as the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support director of the Subsistence Supply Chain.

COL Dean previously served as the battalion commander for the 626th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

His recent assignments include: chief of sustainment, G4, for the 101st ABD (AA); Joint Property Management Branch chief for the J4, U.S. Special Operations Command; before serving at U.S. Special Operations Command, COL Dean was the assistant executive officer to the Headquarters, Department of the Army Deputy Chief of Staff for logistics. He also served as a system synchronization officer at the HQDA G8 Focus Logistics Division.

COL Dean’s operational assignments include tours at Joint Base Lewis-McCord, Washington, where he served as the support operations officer and battalion executive officer for 17th Fires Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, and the brigade logistics officer for the 191st Infantry Brigade (Training Support), Division West. While commanding the headquarters company for 202nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, he deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Successively, COL Dean remained with the 4th SBCT to serve as the 4th SBCT S4.

COL Dean began his career in the Ordnance Corps Soldier as a metal worker (44B). The 1st Armored Division was COL Dean’s first assignment as an officer, highlighted by his deployment tour as the aide-de-camp to the assistant division commander (Support). His earlier assignments included battalion S4 for the 141st Signal Battalion and multiple positions in the 127th Aviation Support Battalion, 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division, to include petroleum platoon leader, company executive officer, and deputy support operations officer.

COL Dean earned his commission and Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing engineering from Grambling State University. He holds a Master of Arts degree in leadership from Central Michigan University as well as a Master of Science degree in national resource strategy from the Eisenhower School, National Defense University.

COL Dean is a proud native of Chicago, Illinois.He is married and has five adult children and four grandchildren.
