Mr. Gilberto Ponce is currently the 401st Army Field Support Brigade deputy to the commander and the U.S. Central Command Logistics Civil Augmentation Program director within the 401st AFSB at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Besides the DCO duties, he oversees the LOGCAP execution in the Arabian Peninsula, Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Ponce is also a logistics management professor with the Eastern Iowa Community College in Davenport, Iowa.
Mr. Ponce began his Department of the Army career in 1984 as a U.S. Army Materiel Command management analyst intern assigned to the headquarters, Army Munitions and Chemical Command located at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. After many varied job assignments throughout the command, he became the Ground Combat Weapon Systems Team chief under the Integrated Logistics Support Directorate. Later in his career Mr. Ponce was designated the Ammunitions Logistics and Demilitarization Team chief under the U.S. Joint Munitions Command.
Within the Acquisition Logistics Enterprise, Mr. Ponce worked in the Enhanced Army Global Enterprise Program business office assisting logistics readiness centers to develop their maintenance, supply and transportation requirements packages for contract re-competition and also as the U.S. Africa Command LOGCAP team chief.
Mr. Ponce numerous deployments include: 2006-2007 S3 chief and DCO with the 1/402nd Army Field Support Battalion in Balad, Iraq; 2007-2008 as 2/402nd AFSBn DCO in Balad, Iraq; 2011-2012 chief of operations with the 402nd AFSB in Arifjan, Kuwait; 2015 Logistics Task Force hand receipt holder with the 401st AFSBn in Bagram, Afghanistan; 2017 LOGCAP planner and contracting officer representative with the LOGCAP program management office forward in Bagram, Afghanistan: 2017-2018 senior LOGCAP planner in support of U.S. Army North, Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers emergency operations/disaster relief in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Ponce is certified in Acquisition Logistics Level III and Program Management Level II. He is also an Army Acquisition Corps member and a National Manufacturing Standards Council certified logistician. His education includes a master’s degree in administration and supervision of schools from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College (class of 2005). Mr. Ponce also completed the Master Logistician Course from the Army Logistics University at Fort Lee, Virginia.
