COL David R. Rigg


Colonel David Rigg serves as the commander of the 279th Army Field Support Brigade, Alabama Army National Guard, a position he has held since June 2022.

He commissioned through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Marion Military Institute, Marion, Alabama, in 1997. His previous assignments include: Power Projection lead, G-3 Operations and Readiness Directorate, U.S. Army Materiel Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; assistant chief of staff, G-4, 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, ALARNG; fire direction officer and firing battery executive officer, A Battery, 3rd Battalion, 117th Field Artillery Regiment, ALARNG; finance officer, 167th Theater Sustainment Command, ALARNG; J8 (comptroller), 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, ALARNG; Materiel Readiness Branch chief, 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, ALARNG; Support Operations Distribution Integration Branch chief, 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, ALARNG; and senior action officer, National Guard Bureau, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. His command assignments include commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 167th Theater Sustainment Command, and Commander, 1200th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, ALARNG.

COL Rigg has deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne School, Finance Captains Career Course, Quartermaster Captains Career Course, Combined Arms and Service Staff School, Command and General Staff College Intermediate Level Education, Advanced Operations Courses, and the U.S. Army War College.

COL Rigg holds a master’s degree of strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College; a master’s in business administration from Samford University; a Bachelor of Science degree in management information systems from Auburn University; and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

His awards and decorations include: the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, the OEF Campaign Medals and the Parachutist Badge. In his civilian career, he is a certified public accountant and certified internal auditor, providing audit and accounting advisory services to a wide variety of public and private sector clients.

He is from Birmingham, Alabama, and is married and has one child.
