Sergeant Major Matthew Laybourne assumed responsibility as the Army Field Support Battalion-Campbell’s Senior Enlisted Advisor in August 2021.
He entered the Army in August 2004 and completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training as a 92F, petroleum supply specialist at Fort Lee, Virginia.
SGM Laybourne’s previous assignments include: E Battery, 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Fort Bliss, Texas; 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia; Army Recruiter in Richmond, California, where he earned the title "Recruiter of the Year" in 2010; A Company, 307th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; instructor/ writer at Petroleum and Water Department , Fort Lee, Virginia; W Company, 244th Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Lee; R Company, 262nd Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Lee; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade, Camp Humphreys, South Korea; Signal Intelligence and Sustainment Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Humphreys.
SGM Laybourne deployed once during Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 3rd Infantry Division from March 2007 to June 2008 where he conducted daily combat logistical patrols throughout the Karada Peninsula in Baghdad, Iraq.
His military and civilian education include: the Noncommissioned Officer Leadership Center of Excellence’s Sergeant Major Course (Class 71), the Senior Leaders Course, the Advanced Leaders Course, and the Battle Staff NCO Course where he received Commandant’s Recognition for all three courses. He graduated from Warrior Leader Course in 2006.
SGM Laybourne holds a bachelor’s degree from Troy University in criminal justice/homeland security and a master’s degree from Argosy University in organizational leadership. He is recognized by the Society of Logistics Executives as a demonstrated senior logistician and as a certified petroleum craftsman by the National Petroleum Management Association.
His awards and decorations include: two Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal (1 Campaign Star), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Action Badge, the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Basic Army Instructors Badge, and the Gold Recruiter Badge with three Sapphire Stars. SGM Laybourne is authorized to wear the Canadian Parachutist Badge, the Royal Netherlands Army Parachutist Badge, and is a recipient of the Glen E. Morrell Medallion for recruiting excellence.
SGM Laybourne is a native of Napa Valley, California. He is married and has two children.
