Lieutenant Colonel Justin L. Darnell took command of Army Field Support Battalion-Korea, on July 8, 2022.
He most recently served as chief, Petroleum and Water Branch, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany.
LTC Darnell served in a variety of command and staff positions including: platoon leader and executive officer with the 201st Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Baqubah, Iraq, and Vilseck, Germany; assistant battalion operations officer for the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion, 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), Bamberg, Germany; logistics adviser for the 5th Iraqi Army Division Military Transition Team in Kirkush and Baqubah, Iraq; deputy director of logistics at Army Field Support Battalion-Charleston, Goose Creek, South Carolina; commander, 111th Quartermaster Company (Mortuary Affairs), 530th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 49th Quartermaster Group, Fort Lee, Virginia, where he deployed with his company to Afghanistan and Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After redeployment, he served as a logistics planner at U.S. Army Africa, Vicenza, Italy. He then served as the support operations officer and battalion executive officer with the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion, 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), Vicenza. Upon graduation from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College he served as a brigade logistics support team chief and later battalion executive officer at AFSBn-Drum, Fort Drum, New York. His next assignment was chief of operations at Defense Logistics Agency Energy Middle East, Kingdom of Bahrain.
LTC Darnell’s military education includes the CGSC, the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, and the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course. LTC Darnell was a Distinguished Military Graduate and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps in May 2003, through Campbell University’s Reserve Officers' Training Corps program in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
His civilian education includes a Master of Business Administration from Charleston Southern University, South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Campbell University, North Carolina.
His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the combat action badge, the air assault badge, the parachutist badge, the parachute rigger badge, and various other campaign and service awards.
LTC Darnell is a native of Shawnee, Kansas. He is married and has two children.
