Master Sergeant Carl Robert Gradwell is a native of Pottsville, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for active duty in November of 1991. He reported to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, for Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training where he earned his MOS, 91B, Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. Upon graduation he reported to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as a mechanic in Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3/327th Infantry Battalion.
In May 1994, he transferred to the Army Reserve and was assigned to the 310th Transportation Company, where he served as a mechanic and squad leader. While assigned to the 814th Quartermaster Company he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 and 2005 as the senior mechanic. While assigned to the 640th Area Support Group he deployed to Kuwait in 2007 and 2008 as the Support Operations Maintenance NCOIC. While assigned to the 378th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, he deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012 as the Support Operations Maintenance NCO. He then was the first sergeant for the 733rd Transportation Company from 2016 to 2018. While assigned to Army Reserve LOGCAP Support Detachment 9, he deployed to Jordan in support of Joint Special Operations Command in 2018 and 2019. He was then assigned to the Army Material Command-Army Reserve Element Letterkenny Army Depot Detachment as the senior enlisted advisor from 2019 to 2022. He is currently assigned to the Army Field Support Battalion-Southwest Asia as the senior enlisted advisor in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
His military education includes Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course, Army Reserve Commander and First Sergeant Course, Motor Transport Operator Course (88M reclassification),Supervisor Development Course, and Contracting Officer Representative Course.
