Lieutenant Colonel Waldrell J. Thomas Jr. assumed command of the Army Field Support Battalion-Southwest Asia on July 1, 2024.
He previously served as the logistics plans chief, U.S. Army Central Command, at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.
LTC Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2003 and served in the 40th Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning (known as Fort Moore since 2023), Georgia, and commissioned as a transportation officer.

LTC Thomas has deployed four times in Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve.
His military education includes the U.S. Army Signal Basic Course, the Professional Leadership Development Course, the Transportation Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, Joint Planners Course, the Lean Six-Sigma Course and the Command and General Staff College.
LTC Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master of Arts in management from Webster University.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, four Iraq Campaign Medals, the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon. His unit awards include the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Combat Action Badge and the Army Parachutist Badge.
LTC Thomas is married and has two children.
