Sergeant Major Nigil G. Chichester assumed duties as the senior enlisted advisor of the Army Field Support Battalion-Drum in August 2023.
SGM Major Chichester is a native of Guyana, which is located on the northern shoulder of South America, bordered by Brazil, Venezuela, and Suriname. In pursuit of a better life and opportunities, he emigrated to the United States in 1997 and resided in Brooklyn, New York. In February of 2001, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and immediately proceeded to Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, followed by Advance Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for the Military Occupation Specialty 88M (motor transport operator). Upon completion of his Advanced Individual Training, he was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood (known as Fort Cavazos since 2023), Texas, as his first duty assignment from June 2001 – September 2005.
SGM Chichester’s other assignments include Fort Leonard Wood; Baumholder, Germany; Fort Hood; Grafenwoehr, Germany; Fort Drum, New York; Camp Humphreys, South Korea; Vilseck, Germany; Fort Bliss, Texas; and again at Fort Drum, which he is currently assigned.
SGM Chichester is a graduate of all required levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System and holds a Bachelor of Arts in leadership and workforce development from the Command and General Staff College. He has held many leadership positions which includes team leader, squad leader, drill sergeant, section sergeant, operations sergeant, platoon sergeant, platoon leader, senior truck master, senior transportation supervisor, S-3 (Operations) noncommissioned officer in charge, first sergeant, and senior enlisted advisor to the U.S. Forces Korea J4 (Logistics), United Nations Command 4 (Logistics), and to the deputy Combined Forces Command 4 (Logistics). SGM Chichester has deployed three times to Iraq in support of combat operations and one deployment to Sinai in Egypt in support of the Multinational Force and Observers mission.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Multinational Force and Observers Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Silver Spurs, Norwegian 18.5 miles Foot March Medal, German Proficiency Badge (Gold), and German Jump Wings (Bronze).
He is also an awardee of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Award, Saint Barbara Award, and Saint Christopher Award.
SGM Major Chichester is married to Marsha Chichester and they have three children. They also have two dogs, Chipp and Chloe.
