LTC Walter E. Kruse

Commander, Army Field Support Battalion - Hood

Lieutenant Colonel Walter E. Kruse assumed command of the Army Field Support Battalion-Hood at Fort Hood, Texas, June 18, 2025.

LTC Kruse most recently served as chief of Plans, III Armored Corps, G5 (Civil- Military Operations) plans, Fort Hood.

LTC Kruse’s previous assignments include 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he served as a platoon leader, maintenance control officer, executive officer in Fox (then Golf) Forward Support Company. While deployed he transitioned into the brigade maintenance as the Support Operations officer, 3rd Brigade Support Battalion. During his time in Baghdad, Iraq, he supported Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. He was then assigned to 17th Fires Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, where he served as the deputy Support Operations officer and then commanded the 125th Forward Support Company. He deployed to the United Arab Emirates and later to the 308th Brigade Support Battalion as the operations officer in UAE. LTC Kruse was assigned to I Corps’ commander’s initiatives group as a speech writer and then as a G4 (Logistics) planner. He then served as a Future Operations planner, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Daegu, South Korea. Following the completion of Command and General Staff College Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, LTC Kruse was assigned to 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as the rear detachment commander, 96th Aviation Support Battalion. Subsequently, he served as the AFSBn-Campbell Support Operations officer.

LTC Kruse’s military education includes the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, the Command and General Staff Course, and the Advanced Military Studies Program.

He earned his commission as a Quartermaster in 2007 after his graduation at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. LTC Kruse holds a Bachelor of Science in industrial distribution, a master’s degree in adult learning and leadership from Kansas State University, and a Master of Arts in military operations.

Among his decorations and badges are two Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2 Bronze Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, and the Air Assault Badge.

LTC Kruse is married and has two children.
