We Are Army Sustainment Command

Army Sustainment Command (ASC) provides globally responsive strategic logistics capabilities and materiel readiness to enable Combatant Commanders to conduct the full range of military operations. Going from a dentist’s office in downtown Kaiserslautern, Germany, to the 405th Army Field Support Brigade was a major operational procedure, but Lisa Mayer-Wekerle did it without any complications, both from a dental and an Army perspective.
ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. — While the U.S. Army Sustainment Command is primarily known for its capabilities in providing Soldiers clothing, equipment, food and more, they're also responsible for the removal, storage and maintenance of many of those same pieces of equipment. Rapid Removal of Excess, known as R2E, helps alleviate the burden of excess and obsolete equipment, allowing units to focus their time and energy on training.
It’s been stated when you have your health, you have everything. At U.S. Army Sustainment Command headquarters, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, the Office of the Surgeon works hard to ensure Soldiers and deployed personnel are in tiptop shape to complete its worldwide missions.
It’s important for Soldiers to have what they need when they need it, but it’s just as valuable to not have extra items taking up valuable space. The Rapid Removal of Excess Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment – also known as R2O – helps Soldiers travel lighter with only the essentials they need, eliminating the time and space taken up by outdated textiles and gear.
The Army’s supply chain is massive . . . and global. Whether delivering pallets of repair or replacement parts or major end items like tanks, the Army’s (and more broadly, the Department of Defense’s) transportation system is continually ensuring that “readiness drivers” are moved through the system expeditiously. Put another way, the system seeks to get the right equipment and parts that drive readiness to the right places at the right time at the lowest possible cost.
A logistician with the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade has been named as U.S. Army Sustainment Command’s selection for the U.S. Army Materiel Command’s employee of the quarter recognition program.
Imagine this: You've stashed away a few treasured items, trusting they'll be safe and sound for when you need them. Fast forward to the moment you open the storage, only to find your belongings ravaged by critters, invading insects, or relentless moisture. It can leave you not only frustrated but also reaching deep into your wallet to replace what's been lost. Proper storage isn't just about stashing things away—it's about safeguarding them against the unexpected.
Whether you call it the “gut truck” or “food truck” there is no denying that the sight of one pulling up to the battalion area makes every Soldier smile. While mobile kitchens were utilized frequently in war zones to provide warm food to Soldiers, they are now being employed to feed Soldiers on military bases. These kitchens, known as “The Culinary Outposts,” utilize food trucks and kiosks to bring healthy eating options to where Soldiers work, train and live.
