We Are Army Sustainment Command

Thousands of service members, most of them Army Reserve Soldiers, descended on Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, recently for a major exercise. That meant Fort McCoy's Logistics Readiness Center's food-service team had a big task to ensure everyone had food and other supplies needed for their training. The installation’s food-service team ensured that need was always met, said Food Service Specialist Jim Gouker, Fort McCoy LRC.

The U.S. Army Sustainment Command’s global reach demands readiness, and Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Curtis Hulshizer ensures its people are spiritually and emotionally equipped to meet those demands. Hulshizer serves across the ASC enterprise to help personnel with their spiritual and emotional well-being. While his office is at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, he has connections with other chaplains worldwide to assist ASC’s personnel across the globe.

Behind every operation are stories worth telling. At U.S. Army Sustainment Command, the Public and Congressional Affairs office ensure stories are both told and preserved. PCA, which includes Public Affairs, Congressional Affairs and History, play a vital role in shaping how ASC communicates its purpose and remembers its journey.

An Army marches on its stomach, and the 405th Army Field Support Brigade and Army Food Program understand this well. The 405th AFSB’s food service team recently conducted a Food Service Management Board in conjunction with a community food show in Kaiserslautern, Germany. In attendance were over 60 leaders, managers and food service professionals.

The 402nd Army Field Support Brigade reinforced its role as the Indo-Pacific’s Theater Army Field Support Brigade by projecting enterprise sustainment capabilities across multiple countries during Talisman Sabre 25 - a multinational, large-scale exercise led by the Australian Defense Force and supported by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

Communication is key, maybe even more so when multiple nationalities and cultures are represented and people speak and understand more than one language. The team at Logistics Readiness Center Poland knows this, firsthand, and they work hard to mitigate any associated challenges involved with their communication efforts.

On Sept. 11 Rock Island Arsenal honored lives lost in the 9/11 attacks with a memorial gathering of Soldiers, Army Civilians and community members. In a moment of reflection and unity, the installation paused to remember the fallen and reaffirm its commitment to service and resilience.

The 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, is providing the Soldiers to support the next rotation of forces to Poland, and the 405th Army Field Support Brigade and Theater Logistics Support Center-Europe are providing them with the Bradley Fighting Vehicles they’ll need for the mission.

Before coming to Logistics Readiness Center Wiesbaden, Germany, James Elliott worked for a non-profit food bank, crisis center and homeless shelter in Cleveland, Ohio, providing meals and critical counseling to those in need. The LRC Wiesbaden employee brought that experience and expertise – as well as care for his community – with him when he started working for the Army again as an Army Civilian and now food service worker supervisor supporting the U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden community.

Most Soldiers don’t think twice about how their gear gets from point A to point B, they just know it shows up when and where it’s needed. But behind every shipment is a team making sure nothing gets lost, delayed, or unpaid. One member of that team is ASC's Luther Kirby.
