Command Sergeant Major Jason L. Gusman assumed responsibility as command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Sustainment Command on July 10, 2025.
CSM Gusman previously served as the command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Mission and Installation Contracting Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1994 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Advanced Individual Training as a unit supply specialist at Fort Lee, Virginia.
CSM Gusman also served as the command sergeant major for the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Detrick, Maryland.
CSM Gusman’s other assignments include Alpha Battery, 6th Battalion, 29th Field Artillery (Multiple Launch Rocket System) at Strassburg Kaserne, Germany; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Headquarters Company, U.S. Army at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Virginia; U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command at Fort Bragg; and the 528th Special Troops Battalion Special Operations (Airborne) at Fort Bragg.
He has held a variety of positions during his 31 years of service. Those include unit supply sergeant, battalion supply sergeant, logistics operations noncommissioned officer, logistics operations NCO in charge, joint logistics operations NCO, joint support operations NCOIC, first sergeant, logistics sergeant major, and battalion command sergeant major. CSM Gusman’s operational assignments include deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa.
CSM Gusman is a graduate of all levels of the NCO Professional Development System through the Nominative Leaders Course; First Sergeant Course; Battalion, Brigade, Garrison, Sustainment Pre-Command Courses; Command Sergeant Major Development Program; Action Officer Logistics Course; Joint Logistics Course; Support Operations Course; Battle Staff NCO Course; Special Operations Training Course; and Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape High Risk Course.
He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree through Excelsior College.
His awards and decorations include two Legion of Merits, two Bronze Star Medals, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, five Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, two Joint Service Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze service star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 1 bronze service star, Iraqi Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars, and the Contingency Contracting Officer Medallion. He is authorized to wear the Combat Action Badge, Airborne Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, and Army Staff Identification Badge. His foreign decorations include Australian, Columbian and Mexican jump wings. He is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Martin and the Contingency Contracting Officer Medallion and a distinguished member of the Quartermaster Corps.
CSM Gusman is a native of Houston, Texas. He is married and has two children.
