Command Sgt. Maj. Rolando A. Zapata assumed responsibility of the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade August 2022.

Upon his high school graduation, CSM Zapata enlisted into the Army and went to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for Basic Training and then to Fort Gregg-Adams (formerly Fort Lee), Virginia, for Advanced Individual Training as an automated logistics specialist.

CSM Zapata has served in every leadership position from squad leader to command sergeant major. His assignments include: 58th Combat Engineer Company, 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Bad Hersfeld, Germany, serving as a prescribed load list clerk -- it was during this time he served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm; 549th Maintenance Company, 6th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Ansbach, Germany, serving as a squad leader and stock control noncommissioned officer in charge; C Battery, 3rd Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery, Fort Drum, New York, serving as a squad leader and equipment and parts sergeant; A Company, 710th Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Drum, serving as a platoon sergeant -- during this time CSM Zapata served in Operation Enduring Freedom VI and VII; U.S. Army Great Lakes Recruiting Battalion, 3rd Brigade, Livonia, Michigan, as a team leader and recruiter; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 16th Sustainment Brigade, Bamberg, Germany, where CSM Zapata deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom X as the Logistics Transition and Advisory Team NCOIC; U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Warren, Michigan, as the first sergeant and logistics service NCO. In 2018, CSM Zapata was assigned to the 1st Armored Division as the Supply and Services sergeant major. Here he deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan, as the J4 S&S sergeant major. Lastly, he served as the command sergeant major for the 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

His military education includes: Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Army Recruiters Course, Support Operations Course, Contracting Office Representative Course, Operational Contracting Course, and Brigade and Battalion Pre-Command Course.

CSM Zapata has earned his Masters of Science in management and organizational leadership from Excelsior College.

His awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star medal (2nd Award), the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (6th Award), the Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), the Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal (2nd Award), the Army Campaign Medal (2nd Award), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the NATO Medal, Recruiter Badge, and the Expert Drivers Badge. He also is a proud member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

CSM Zapata was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is married and has three children.
