Lieutenant Colonel John Burnett assumed command of Army Field Support Battalion-Stewart June 23, 2023.

Prior to that, LTC Burnett served as the chief, Current Operations Integration Center, at U.S. Army South.

LTC Burnett was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps after completion of the Reserve Officer Training Corps Program.

Upon completion of the Officer Basic Course, LTC Burnett was assigned to Regimental Support Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado, where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. While deployed, he served as an Automotive platoon leader, Cavalry Support Team platoon leader, and Troop executive officer. Upon redeployment, he assumed command of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, RSS, 3rd ACR, where he led the Troop to Fort Hood (known as Fort Cavazos since 2023), Texas, as part of the Base Realignment and Closure, and a subsequent deployment to Iraq in support of OIF-V. Following completion of the Captains Career Course, LTC Burnett was assigned to the 525th Military Police Battalion, Joint Detention Group (Guantanamo Bay), U.S. Army South, where he served as the Battalion logistics officer from 2009-2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon completion of his tour, he was assigned to the Defense Logistics Agency Headquarters, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he served as the chairman, DoD Small Arms/ Light Weapons Coordinating Group. During his incumbency, he was the focal point within the DoD and for non-DoD entities to submit policy and substantive program enhancement recommendations to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readiness. Following his tenure at DLA, he served as the chief, Joint Task Force Contracting Team, Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, Washington, D.C, where he facilitated all contracting actions required for the 57th presidential Inauguration. Following LTC Burnett’s attendance at the Command & General Staff Officers’ Course, he served as the chief, Plans Branch, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, Security, U.S. Army Garrison-Daegu from August 2015 - August 2016. He was then assigned to the 23rd Quartermaster Brigade, Fort Lee (known as Fort Gregg-Adams since 2023), Virginia, where he served as a battalion executive officer, and the brigade operations officer. LTC Burnett reported to U.S. Embassy-Riyadh in June 2018, where he served as executive officer to the Senior Defense Official/Defense AttachĂ© where he was responsible for maintaining open lines of communication with officials in the Saudi Arabian government, U.S. agencies operating in and out of Saudi Arabia, allowing the SDO/DATT freedom of maneuver across the region to influence decisions that effects every DoD organization in the region.

He holds a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from University of Central Oklahoma.

LTC Burnett’s awards and decorations include: two Bronze Stars, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the Parachutist Badge.
