MSG Michael Childs

Senior Enlisted Advisor

Master Sergeant Michael Phillip Childs serves as Senior Enlisted Advisor of the 402nd Army Field Support Battalion – Alaska, headquartered at Joint Base
Elmenforf Richardson, Alaska, a position he has held since July 2019.  He is a native of Philadelphia, PA and entered the United States Army in May of 1999.
He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Benning, GA then graduated AIT at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland as a 63W Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic.

MSG Childs’ previous assignments include 263rd Maintenance Company, Fort Hood, Texas; B co 2nd FSB, Camp Hovey, Korea; 503rd Maintenance Company,
Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 659th Maintenance Company, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Drill Sergeant, A Company 1st Battalion 13th Infantry,  Fort Jackson,
South Carolina; Senior Drill Sergeant Leader, United States Army Drill Sergeant School, Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Combat Repair Team Motor Sergeant, 25th Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Operation Sergeant, 25th Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Wainwright, Alaska; First Sergeant, F co 123rd Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Bliss, Texas; Support Operations Sergeant, 17th Combat Service Support Battalion.

 MSG Childs’ military and civilian education includes: Air Assault Course; Basic Leader Course; Advance Leader Course; Senior Leader Course; Maintenance Management Course; Small Group Instructor Course; Total Army Instructor Course; Drill Sergeant School; Equal Opportunity Leader’s Course; Master Resiliency Course; Battle Staff Course; Company Commander First Sergeant Pre-command Course. He also has an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Central Texas College.

MSG Childs has served in every enlisted leadership position ranging from Squad Leader to First Sergeant throughout his 20 year career. MSG Childs has several combat tours that include serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003, 2004-2005), The Surge (2006-2007), and Operation Enduring Freedom (2011-2012).

MSG Childs’ awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC ); Army Commendation Medal (4OLC); Army Achievement Medal (2OLC); Good Conduct Medal (one silver knot); National Defense Service Medal; Presidential Unit Citation Award; Korean Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; NCO professional Development Ribbon with the numeral 3; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Medal; Drill Sergeant Badge; and Air Assault Badge.

MSG Childs is married and they have four children.
