LTC Benjamin L. Kilgore

Commander

Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin L. Kilgore assumed command of the AFSBn-Hawaii June 2019. He was born in Winter Park, Florida, and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from Miami University in 2001, LTC Kilgore commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Officer.

He then attended the ADA Officer Basic Course at Fort Bliss, Texas. Assigned to Alpha Battery, 3-43 ADA Battalion, LTC Kilgore deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operations Desert Spring and Southern Watch in 2002. He then remained in Southwest Asia to support Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Upon return to Fort Bliss, LTC Kilgore served 3-43 ADA as Alpha Battery’s Executive Officer and as the Battalion S4, Logistics Officer. After transitioning to Logistics Branch, LTC Kilgore completed the Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course in 2005 and was assigned to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, with Joint Task Force- Guantanamo, where he served as S4. In 2006, LTC Kilgore received orders for the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Bamberg, Germany, where he served as the Brigade Support Battalion’s Deputy Support Operations Officer. During a fifteen-month deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, LTC Kilgore took command of the Forward Support Troop, 1-91 Cavalry Regiment (Airborne), the 173rd Airborne Brigade’s Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition Squadron. In 2008, LTC Kilgore returned to Europe and finished his command in Schweinfurt, Germany. 

After departing the 173rd Airborne, LTC Kilgore moved to Fargo, North Dakota, to earn a Master’s Degree in Managerial Logistics from North Dakota State University. In 2010, LTC Kilgore received orders to the 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) (ESC) at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served over two years as the Chief of Operations within the G3. While serving with the 3rd ESC, LTC Kilgore deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2012. In 2013, LTC Kilgore attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Following CGSC, LTC Kilgore transitioned to Fort Drum, New York. LTC Kilgore served as a Brigade Logistics Support Team Chief in support of the 10th Mountain Division and as the Executive Officer for Army Field Support BattalionDrum. In 2016, LTC Kilgore received assignment orders as the Logistics Support Team Chief at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California. In May, 2017, LTC Kilgore returned to North Dakota, where he served as the Professor of Military Science for North Dakota State University’s Reserve Officer Training Corps program.

LTC Kilgore’s decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal with 4 OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with 5 OLC, the Army Achievement Medal with OLC, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Action Badge. The Air Defense Artillery branch also inducted LTC Kilgore into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.

LTC Kilgore is married.
