Command Sergeant Major Roy Sosebee Jr. currently serves as the command sergeant major for the 279th Army Field Support Brigade, Alabama Army National Guard located in Huntsville, Alabama.

CSM Sosebee has reclassed several times during his 37-year career in the ALARNG. He has been awarded six different military occupational skill identifiers. After serving as a nuclear weapons specialist (55G), CSM Sosebee went on to become a track vehicle repairer (63H), Bradley Fighting Vehicle System mechanic (63T), M1 armor crewman (19K), cavalry scout (19D), and indirect fire infantryman (11C).

CSM Sosebee’s previous assignments include: command sergeant major of Task Force Southeast, 877th Engineer Battalion, in support of the Southwest Border Mission in 2020-2021; assistant operations sergeant, 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Alabama; first sergeant, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 173rd Infantry Regiment, ALARNG; first sergeant, Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 131st Cavalry Regiment, ALARNG; first sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1-131st Cavalry, ALARNG; first sergeant, Bravo Troop 1-131st Cavalry, ALARNG.

In 2002, CSM Sosebee was assigned to Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, in support of Noble Eagle II. In 2003, he was assigned to Anniston, Alabama, in support of Noble Eagle III. In 2007, CSM Sosebee deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2007-2008. Most recently CSM Sosebee was assigned to McAllen, Texas, in support of the Southwest Border Mission 2020-2021.

CSM Sosebee’s military schools and education include: Primary Leadership Development Course, Total Army Instructor Course, Small Group Instructor Training, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Cavalry Leaders Course, and U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.

CSM Sosebee’s awards and decorations include, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal (7th award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (2nd award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/m device (2nd award), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (5th award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon Veterans Service Medal, National Emergency Service Medal, Special Service Medal, Alabama National Guard Faithful Service Ribbon, Alabama National Guard Active Duty Basic Training Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Order of Saint George Bronze Medallion.

CSM Sosebee is married and has two children.
