Lieutenant Colonel James R. Cook IV assumed command of Army Field Support Battalion-Hawaii in June 2023.

Before joining the Army, he spent two years as an infantryman in the South Carolina Army National Guard. In May 2005, he received his commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

LTC Cook is a graduate of the Army Transportation Officer Basic Course at Fort Eustis, Virginia, and the Combined Logistics Career Course at Fort Lee (known as Fort Gregg- Adams since 2023), Virginia. He is also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Joint and Combined Warfighting School in Norfolk, Virginia.

LTC Cook's command and leadership assignments include detachment commander, 39th Movement Control Battalion; detachment commander, 831st Transportation Battalion; company commander, 3rd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment; battalion executive officer, Army Field Support Battalion-Alaska; chief, Southern Command Deployment and Distribution Operations Center; and executive officer to the chief of Staff, SOUTHCOM. His operational deployments were with the 612th Movement Control Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Joint Task Force East (Romania); the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Afghanistan Detachment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and the V Corps transportation officer in support of Operation European Assure, Deter and Reinforce (Poland).

LTC Cook has a Master of Science in supply chain management, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas; an Associate of Arts in German, Defense Language Institute, Presidio Monterey, California; and a Bachelor of Arts, The Citadel, Charleston.

His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. He has also earned the Parachutists, Pathfinder, and Combat Action badges.

LTC Cook is a native of Gaffney, South Carolina. LTC Cook is married to the former Kimberly J. Mayo of Bettendorf, Iowa.
