Sergeant Major Maurice A. Carter Jr. assumed duties as the senior enlisted advisor of the Army Field Support Battalion-Hawaii in October 2021.

SGM Carter entered active duty from his hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee Aug. 1, 1997. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Advanced Individual Training as an automated logistical specialist at Fort Lee (known as Fort Gregg-Adams since 2023), Virginia.

SGM Carter's previous assignments include Service Battery, 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood (known as Fort Cavazos since 2023), Texas; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Division Support Command, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood; Headquarters and Headquarters Operations Company, 102nd Military Intelligence Battalion, Camp Essayons, South Korea; Bravo Battery, 2nd Bn, 82nd FA Regt; Charlie Battery, Golf Company, and 215th Forward Support Company; the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois; 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Camp Walker, South Korea; detachment sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 6th Ordnance, Camp Carrol, South Korea; Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, Fort Irwin, California; HHC, 35th Combat Service Support Battalion, Sagami Depot, Japan, G-4 (Logistics) sergeant major; HHC, U.S. Army Japan, Camp Zama, Japan, first sergeant; HHC, USARJ, Camp Zama, Japan, operations sergeant major; HHC, 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

SGM Carter has deployed in support of Operation Intrinsic Action, Task Force 1-9, 1st Cav Div; Operation Iraqi Freedom, while assigned to C Battery, 2nd Bn, 82nd FA, and Operation Enduring Freedom with G Company, 215th Forward Support Company.

SGM Carter has attended numerous military schools includes to include Primary Leadership Development Course); Advanced Leaders Course; Senior Leaders Course; Master Fitness Course; Battle Staff Course, Support Operation Phase I and II; the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 70.

SGM Carter’s awards and decorations include the four Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, seven Army Achievement Medals, Meritorious Unit Citation, six Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal with one Combat Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with two Combat Stars, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon (Numeral 5), Combat Action Badge, and Driver Badge (Wheel).

SGM Carter is married and has three children.
