Mr. Richard (Rick) A. Bezold is a native of Taylor Mill, Kentucky. He joined the U.S. Government Civil Service in August 2014 after retiring from the U.S. Army. Bezold assumed the role of the deputy to the commander on Sept. 2, 2019. As the deputy to the commander, he assists the commander in planning, coordinating, and directing AFSB support in the 404th Army Field Support Brigade area of operations.

Bezold enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in June 1983 as a military policeman and joined the Simultaneous Member Program in the 377th Military Police Company, Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated Thomas More College and was commissioned a second lieutenant through Northern Kentucky University as an ordnance officer in 1985. His military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic and Advance Courses at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, the Joint Services Officer Course, and the U.S. Army War College.

Early assignments include various command and operations officer experience at the detachment, platoon and company level. Other previous assignments included: 17th Ordnance Company, Uijongbu, Korea; S3 3rd Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; Materiel Readiness Officer, 1st Infantry Division, Kitzingen, Germany; Support Operations Observer/Controller, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California; J4 Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland; Commander, 2nd Forward Support Battalion, Camp Hovey, Korea, and deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom, August 2004, and then redeployed to Fort Carson, Colorado. Following command, he was assigned to U.S. Forces Korea C/J5 plans and later attended the U.S. Army War College. He was later assigned as the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command chief of staff and then the 8th Theater Sustainment Command G3. His final assignment was as director, Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services, Battle Creek, Michigan. He retired from the U.S. Army and became a Department of the Army civilian where he performed duties as the 403rd AFSB Support Operations officer, 405th AFSB Support Operations Officer, 405th AFSB deputy to the commander, and the Army Sustainment Command, Support Operations Materiel Readiness director.
