Mr. Richard (Rick) Bezold assumed duties as deputy to the commander, 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, on Sept. 2, 2019.

As deputy to the commander, he assists the commander in planning, coordinating, and directing support in the 404th AFSB area of operations.

Bezold has worked for the federal government for 41 years both as a reserve and active-duty commissioned officer (retired) and now as a Department of the Army Civilian. He most recently served as director, Materiel Readiness, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in June 1983 as a military policeman and joined the Simultaneous Member Program in the 377th Military Police Company, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Bezold joined the Civil Service in August 2014 after retiring from the Army. His DA Civilian assignments include Support Operations officer, 403rd Army Field Support Brigade, South Korea; Support Operations officer, 405th Army Field Support Brigade, Germany; deputy to the commander, 405th Army Field Support Brigade.

Previous assignments include 17th Ordnance Company, Uijongbu, Korea; S-3 (Operations) 3rd Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; Materiel Readiness officer, 1st Infantry Division, Kitzingen, Germany; Support Operations observer/controller, National Training Center, Fort Irwin California; J-4 (Logistics) Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland; commander, 2nd Forward Support Battalion, Camp Hovey, South Korea.

Bezold was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in August 2004, and then redeployed to Fort Carson, Colorado. Following command, he was assigned to C/J-5 (Plans), U.S. Forces Korea; chief of staff, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Daegu, South Korea; 8th Theater Sustainment Command G-3 (Operations), Fort Shafter, Hawaii; director, Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services, Battle Creek, Michigan.

His military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic and Advance courses at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, the Joint Services Officer Course, and the U.S. Army War College.

Bezold was commissioned a second lieutenant through Northern Kentucky University as an ordnance officer in 1985. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Thomas More College.

Bezold is a native of Taylor Mill, Kentucky.
