Colonel Ernest J. Lane II assumed duties as the commander of the 405th Army Field Support Brigade on April 24, 2024.

COL Lane’s previous assignment was chief of Staff, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany. He began his military service in 1995 with the Florida Army National Guard.

COL Lane’s assignments include battalion Intelligence officer and truck platoon leader, 725th Main Support Battalion, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; truck platoon leader and battalion adjutant, 225th Forward Support Battalion, Kirkuk, Iraq; detachment commander, Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, 831st Transportation Battalion, Kandahar, Afghanistan; team chief, 382nd Transportation Theater Opening Element, Fort Eustis, Virginia; battle captain, 640th Sustainment Brigade, Camp Arifjan Kuwait; commander, 508th Transportation Company, Fort Eustis; faculty advisor/instructor writer, Expeditionary Warfare School, U.S. Marine Corps, Quantico, Virginia; division transportation officer and Armored Brigade Combat Team logistics and sustainment director, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia and Kandahar, Afghanistan; joint logistics officer – U.S. Transportation Command Joint Manning Exchange Program, U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C.; senior joint plans officer and later chief, Logistics Readiness and Sustainment Division, U.S. Northern Command Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/Military District of Washington; battalion commander, 831st Transportation Battalion, Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Naval Support Activity-Bahrain, Kingdom of Bahrain; aide-de-camp to the commanding general, U.S. Army Materiel Command, Huntsville, Alabama.

COL Lane has deployed two times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and two times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

His military education includes the Transportation Corps Officer Basic Course, Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, Marine Corps Tactical Logistics Operators Course, Marine Corps Command and General Staff College, Defense Support of Civil Authorities Phase I and II, Joint Forces Staff College Logistics Planners Course, Joint Forces Staff College Joint and Combined Warfighting School and the Army War College (Secretary of Defense Executive Fellow-AT&T).

He graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in office administration in 2001 and was commissioned into the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. He also holds a master’s degree in military studies from the Marine Corps University.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, five Global War on Terrorism Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, and NATO Medal. He is also the recipient of the Transportation Corps Regimental Order of Saint Christopher Award.

COL Lane is a native of Tallahassee, Florida. He is married and has two daughters.
