Mr. Robert Thompson serves as deputy to the commander for the 406th Army Field Support Brigade, a position he has held since June 2014.

As the DCO, he is the senior Department of the Army civilian within the brigade and serves as the commanders’ principal assistant in planning, coordinating and directing all aspects of the AFSB support. He assists in the supervision and oversight of the brigade staff, geographically dispersed subordinate AFSBns and other subordinate organizations, and assist in command oversight of external mission support and integration of acquisition, logistics and technology.

Mr. Thompson has over 30 years of progressive logistics, acquisition logistics and maintenance management experience in both the military and public sector. He has a broad background and experience in project management, facilities operations, personnel, materials and supply management. His 30 years of military experience include key command and logistics staff assignments. His last assignment on active duty was the deputy program director for Logistics Civil Augmentation Program in Iraq.

Mr. Thompson served as platoon leader, shop officer and executive officer in the 514th Maintenance Company, 544th Maintenance Battalion, Fort Knox, Kentucky; Supply officer, materiel office in the 227th Maintenance Battalion, Yongsan, Korea; Commander, 61st Maintenance Company, 227th Maintenance Battalion, Camp Kyle, Korea; Logistics staff officer, U.S. Army Logistics Center, Fort Gregg-Adams (formerly Fort Lee), Virginia; Readiness officer and secretary general staff, 19th Support Command, Taegu, Korea; Logistics plans officer, G4, Third U.S. Army, Fort McPherson, Georgia; Maintenance team chief and observer controller, 2/347th Regiment, 4th Brigade, 87th Division, Fort Eisenhower (formerly Fort Gordon), Georgia; Observer Controller/Trainer, 2nd Simulations Exercise Group, 1st Brigade, 87th Division; Deputy commander, Task Force 1-87th, 1st Brigade, 87th Division, Birmingham, Alabama. Commander, Logistics Support Battalion, 2nd Battalion, 349th Regiment, 188th Infantry Brigade, Fort Stewart, Georgia; Exercise branch chief, 4th Brigade, 75th Division, Birmingham, Alabama; Regional LOGCAP OIC, Multi-National Division-Baghdad and deputy program director, LOGCAP Victory Base Complex, Baghdad, Iraq. Mr. Thompson also has held positions as maintenance supervisor, project manager and director of facilities maintenance for the Atlanta Public Schools, Atlanta, Georgia.

His military education includes Ordnance Officers Basic and Advanced Course, Junior Maintenance Officers Course, Combined Arms Service Staff School, Training Development Course, Observer Controller /Trainer Course and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He is DAWIA certified level III Life Cycle Logistics and Level I Program Management.

Mr. Thompson received a bachelor’s degree in industrial education technology from South Carolina State University. He also earned a master’s degree in general administration from Central Michigan University.
