Sergeant Major Richard Coeur assumed duties as the senior enlisted advisor of the Army Field Support Battalion-Carson, Fort Carson, Colorado, in August 2024.

He enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1990 as an infantry rifleman. He completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, and advanced individual training at Camp Pendleton, California. SGM Couer served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1994 through 2006 and subsequently transferred to active duty, completing advanced individual training as an 89B ammunition specialist at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

SGM Coeur’s previous positions and assignments include: security guard, Marine Barracks Japan, Sasebo, Japan; team leader, 2nd Battalion 7th Marines, Twentynine Palms, California; section sergeant, 980th Quartermaster Company, Bay City, Michigan; section sergeant, A Company, 3rd Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia; detailed recruiter, Elizabethtown Recruiting Company, Elizabethtown, Kentucky; detachment sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 6th Ordnance Battalion, Camp Carroll, South Korea; platoon sergeant, 24th Ordnance Company, Fort Stewart; first sergeant, 84th Ordnance Company, Camp Carroll; division ammunition manager, Signal and Intelligence Company, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; first sergeant, 17th Ordnance Company, Camp Casey, South Korea; ordnance proponent liaison officer, Human Recourses Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky.

SGM Coeur has deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

SGM Coeur’s military training and education include: the Basic Leader Course, the Advance Leader Course, the Senior Leader Course (distinguished honor graduate), the Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course, the Commander/ 1SG Course, and the Sergeants Major Course – Class 73. He has also completed the SHARP Certification Course, the Master Resilience Trainer Course, the Army Project Management Course, and the Transportation of Hazardous Material Course.

SGM Coeur has an associate degree in general studies from Central Texas College, a bachelor’s degree in leadership and workforce development from Command and General Staff College, and a master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University. He has also earned a demonstrated senior logistician credential.

SGM Coeur’s awards include four Meritorious Service Medals, one Joint Commendation Medal with C device, eight Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), the Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 7), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, the Army Basic Recruiter Badge, the Combat Action Badge, the Driver’s Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Silver). He is also a recipient of the Honorable Order of Samuel Sharpe.

SGM Coeur is a native of West Branch, Michigan. He is married and has two daughters.
