Sergeant Major Nicole Shields assumed duties as the senior enlisted advisor of the Army Field Support Battalion-Cavazos, Fort Cavazos, Texas, in February 2024.

Her previous assignment was senior logistics services supervisor, III Armored Corps, G4 (Logistics), Fort Cavazos.

SGM Shields enlisted in the Army in June 2000 as an automated logistical specialist. She attended basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and advanced individual training at Fort Lee (known as Fort Gregg-Adams since 2023), Virginia.

SGM Shields has served in every leadership position from team leader to first sergeant. She served as a Standard Army Maintenance System-1 operator, equipment records parts noncommissioned officer, prescribed load list NCO, platoon sergeant, human resource sergeant, materiel management NCO, senior drill sergeant, Operations NCO, Inspector General NCO, Brigade S3 Operations sergeant, and first sergeant.

Her stateside assignments include Fort Lewis, Washington; Fort Cavazos; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Irwin, California; Fort Knox, Kentucky; and Fort Bliss, Texas. Her overseas assignments include Germany and Hawaii. She has deployed to Iraq three times for both combat and peacekeeping missions.

SGM Shields’ military education includes Standard Army Maintenance System Course, Basic Leader Course, Logistics System Course, Unit Prevention Leader Course, Equal Opportunity Course, Standard Army Maintenance System Supervisor Course, Advance Leader Course, Standard Army Retail Supply System Course, Contracting Officer Representative Course, Senior Leader Course, Drill Sergeant School, Master Resiliency Trainer Course, Inspector General Course, Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, National Training Center Observer Controller and Trainer Course, Sergeants Major Academy, and Global Combat Support System-Army Materiel Managers Course.

Her civilian education includes a high school diploma from Midland Senior High School, an associate degree in general studies from Pierce College, and a Bachelor of Science in health administration from University of Phoenix. She is currently working on her master’s degree in human resource management.

SGM Shields’ awards and decorations include three Meritorious Service Medals, eight Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, seven Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (3 stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 3), and three Certificates of Achievement.

SGM Shields is a native of Midland, Texas and has one daughter.
