Command Sergeant Major Chesa S. Freeman assumed the duties as command sergeant major of the 407th Army Field Support Brigade in December 2023.

CSM Freeman entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 17, 2000. She completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee (known as Fort Gregg-Adams since 2023), Virginia, where she earned the military occupational specialty of 92Y, unit supply specialist.

CSM Freeman’s previous assignments consisted of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Aviation Brigade, Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii; Camp Long, South Korea; 3rd Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Fort Bragg (known as Fort Liberty since 2023), North Carolina; 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Okinawa, Japan; 1st Special Troops Battalion, Fort Riley, Kansas; 193rd Infantry Brigade, Fort Jackson; 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Camp Mackall, North Carolina; 35th Signal Brigade, Fort Gordon (known as Fort Eisenhower since 2023), Georgia; 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Humphreys, South Korea, and 262nd Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Gregg-Adams. She deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq, in support of Operation New Dawn.

CSM Freeman has served in a variety of leadership and operational positions that consisted of unit supply specialist, unit armorer, unit supply sergeant, platoon sergeant, battalion senior supply sergeant, senior drill sergeant, brigade senior supply sergeant, first sergeant, group senior supply sergeant, brigade S4 (Logistics) sergeant major, 2nd Infantry Division combined logistics sergeant major, and battalion command sergeant major.

CSM Freeman’s military education consists of the Air Assault Course, Field Sanitation Course, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Course, Combat Lifesaver’s Course, Unit Armorers Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Unit Level Logistics System (S-4) Course, Airborne School, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced Course, Combative Level I, Battle Staff Course, Drill Sergeant School, Basic Instructor Training Course, Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, Master Resiliency Trainers Course; Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape High Risk Course, Operational Contracting Course, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (class 69), Battalion Pre-Command Course, Command Sergeants Major Development Program, TRADOC Pre-Command Course, U.S. Army Sustainment Command Pre-Command Course, and a host of technical certifications.

CSM Freeman’s civilian education consists of a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Maryland University College. She also holds a master’s degree in management and human resources from Excelsior College.

CSM Freeman’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, six Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals, Army Superior Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, seven Army Good Conduct Medals), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5th award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award), Drill Sergeant Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge. She is also a member of the Quartermaster Regiment’s Order of Saint Martin (Distinguished).

CSM Freeman is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
