Command Sergeant Major Marcel A. Parson assumed duties as the command sergeant major of the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program Support Brigade in April 2021.

CSM Parson enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 1, 1994. He attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as a motor transport operator. He previously served as the command sergeant major of the 3rd Training Brigade, 86th Training Division, 84th Training Command at Arlington Heights, Illinois; and command sergeant major of the 7458th Medical Backfill Battalion, Southeast Medical Area Readiness Support Group, Army Reserve Medical Command, Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), North Carolina. Another previous command sergeant major position was at the 3274th U.S. Army Hospital, SEMARSG, ARMEDCOM, Fort Liberty, North Carolina. CSM Parson has served in various other assignments including senior observer controller trainer, First U.S. Army, Division East,189th Brigade, 2/311th Training Support-Combat Support-Combat Service Support Battalion, Fort Liberty, North Carolina; senior OC/T, 84th Training Command, 78th Division, 1/311th Battalion, Fort Liberty, North Carolina; and senior motor transport operator, 207th Regional Support Group, 812nd Transportation Battalion, 941st Transportation Company, North Charleston, South Carolina.

CSM Parson’s deployments/mobilizations include: Operation Enduring Freedom, Kandahar City, Afghanistan, in 2011; Camp Atterbury, Indiana (OEF 2009-2011); Djibouti, Horn of Africa (OEF 2008); Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Fort McCoy, Wisconsin (OEF 2005-2008); Bagram Airfield, Panjshir, Afghanistan (OEF 2004); and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Operation Iraqi Freedom, in 2003.

His military education includes: the Motor Transport Operator Course, the Primary Leadership Development Course, the Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, the Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, the Battle Staff Course, the First Sergeant Course, the Senior Enlistment Joint Professional Military Education Course, the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.

CSM Parson’s civilian education includes: a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina; a Master’s of Business Administration degree in organizational behavior from American Public University/American Military University in West Virginia.

He is currently employed with bioMérieux, headquartered in Marcy-l’Etoile, France. He serves as the manager of the biochemistry department of its manufacturing site in Durham, North Carolina.

His awards and decorations include: the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with 1 Silver and 3 Bronze oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal Armed Forces Service Medal, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hourglass M Device and numeral 3, the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with 4 affixed, and the Army Service Ribbon.

He was born in South Florida and was raised in the South Carolina low country. He has been married for 20 years and has one son.
