LTC Terrance L. Kratz III assumed command of the Army Field Support Battalion-Alaska, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, June 2021.
LTC Kratz joined the U.S. Army in 2001. His officer career began as a tank platoon leader for 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He later served as executive officer of Fox Company, 1st Battalion, 81st Armor Regiment, at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before transitioning to the Logistics Corps and attending the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course. As a logistician, LTC Kratz’s key assignments included: military transition team advisor; Headquarters and Headquarters company commander, 21st Theater Sustainment Command; brigade S-4, 18th Engineer Brigade, Germany; executive officer and chief of operations for the directorate of plans, training, mobilization and security, Fort Greely Garrison, Alaska; Reception, Staging and Onward Movement branch chief, and Multinational Corps Northeast, Poland. Before assuming command of the AFSBn-Alaska, LTC Kratz was an instructor at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Department of Sustainment and Force Management, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
His professional military education includes: the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He received his commission from the Officer Candidate School in 2001 as an armor officer in 2001, and later transitioned to the Logistics Corps.
LTC Kratz holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, a master’s degree in education, and an education specialist degree from Liberty University.
He is a recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Christopher by the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. His awards and decorations include: two Bronze Stars, three Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, the National Defense Service Medal with one star device, and the NATO Medal.
LTC Kratz is a native of Oklahoma, he is married and has two miniature Australian shepherds, Shasta and Mocha.
