Sergeant Major W.B. Fancher Jr. assumed responsibility as the Army Field Support Battalion-Alaska’s senior enlisted advisor in August 2021.

SGM Fancher enlisted into the U.S. Army as a unit supply specialist (92Y) on Nov. 24, 1998. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gregg-Adams (formerly Fort Lee), Virginia.

SGM Fancher has served in numerous leadership and staff positions to include: squad leader and supply sergeant with the 83rd Chemical Battalion at Fort Johnson (formerly Fort Polk), Louisiana; supply sergeant with the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, at Camp Hovey, Korea; platoon sergeant with the 565th Ground Ambulance Company at Fort Johnson; small group leader and platoon sergeant with the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort Johnson; supply and transportation NCOIC, detachment sergeant, S4 NCOIC and first sergeant with the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, operations NCOIC and G4 sergeant major with the 1st Special Forces Command at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), North Carolina.

SGM Fancher is a graduate of Class 71 of the Sergeants Major Academy. He has attended all levels of the NCO Education System as well as First Sergeant Course, Jumpmaster School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Support Operations Course, Theater Sustainment Planners Course, Joint Logistics Course, Master Resiliency Trainer Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, and Small Group Instructor Course.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in leadership and workforce development from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

SGM Fancher’s awards and decorations include: two Bronze Star Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, seven Army Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, eight Army Achievement Medals, seven Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 bronze stars), the Iraq Campaign Medal (2 bronze stars), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Combat Action Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold). He is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Martin and a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

SGM Fancher was born in Hammond, Louisiana. He is married and has three children.
