Lieutenant Colonel Brian E. Thompson Jr. assumed command of Army Field Support Battalion-Korea May 2024.

He most recently served as deputy Support Operations officer, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

LTC Thompson served in a variety of command and staff positions including platoon leader, company executive officer, battle captain, company commander, assistant Brigade S4 (Logistics), observer/coach/trainer, and Transportation Plans officer. During this time, he served three deployments to Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and alongside multinational forces throughout Europe as a trainer. His previous field grade officer assignments and positions have ranged from the tactical to strategic/joint levels. He served as the battalion executive officer for 277th Aviation Support Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York, and Forward for Operation Atlantic Resolve. He subsequently served as the brigade operations officer for the 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum. He then served as the Logistics Plans Branch head with NATO Special Operations Headquarters at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, or SHAPE, in Casteau, Belgium. He then was assigned to 8th Theater Sustainment Command at Fort Shafter, where his next assignment was as the executive officer to the commanding general. Following that assignment, he served as the Current Operations chief and concurrently served as a Joint Training team lead under the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in Taiwan.

His military education includes the Joint and Combined Warfighting School, Joint Professional Military Education, Level II; various NATO operations and planning courses; U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; Combined Logistics Captains Career Course; and the Transportation Officer Basic Course.

LTC Thompson’s civilian education includes a Master of Arts in organizational leadership and management from University of Texas, El Paso, and a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.

LTC Thompson commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Transportation Corps in May 2005, through University of Rhode Island’s ROTC program in North Kingston, Rhode Island.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, three Defense Meritorious Service Medals, five Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and various campaign and other service awards.

LTC Thompson is a native of Middletown, Rhode Island. He is married and has four children.
