Sergeant Major Jamaal Simmons assumed duties as the senior enlisted advisor of Army Field Support Battalion-Korea, 403rd Army Field Support Brigade, located at Camp Humphreys, South Korea, in September 2024.
SGM Simmons’ most recent assignment was with the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence, Fort Bliss, Texas, where he served as the subject matter expert and curriculum developer for the Advance Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, and the Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course.
He enlisted in the Army on Sept. 28, 2004, as an 88M, motor transportation operator.
SGM Simmons has served in numerous leadership positions including transportation supervisor, truck master, platoon sergeant, drill sergeant and first sergeant.
His assignments include: 69th Transportation Company, Mannheim, Germany; Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Distribution Company, 526th Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 526th Forward Support Company, 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Campbell; 126th Transportation Company, Fort Bragg (known as Fort Liberty since 2023), North Carolina; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
SGM Simmons has deployed once in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
His military school and education include all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System including the First Sergeant Course, Instructor Course, and the Sergeants Major Course.
SGM Simmons earned his associate degree from Columbia Southern University and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in human resource management from Columbia Southern University.
His awards and decorations include four Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, six Good Conduct Medals, Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 Stars), Afghan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Assault Badge, and Drill Sergeant Badge. SGM Simmons is also a recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara silver medallion.
SGM Simmons has four daughters.
