Sergeant Major Olimpia I. Valdez assumed duties as the senior enlisted advisor of the 405th Army Field Support Battalion-Poland in January 2024. She was senior enlisted advisor of the 405th Army Field Support Battalion-Mannheim before its name change to Poland.

SGM Valdez was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended El Monte High School where she played softball, basketball, and ran track. After graduating High School, SGM Valdez enlisted in the Army, Jan. 6, 2003, as a 92Y, unit supply specialist. She attended basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and advance individual training at Fort Lee (known as Gregg-Adams since 2023), Virginia.

SGM Valdez' first assignment was to the 82nd Forward Support Battalion, Fort Bragg (known as Fort Liberty since 2023), North Carolina, where she performed duties as a unit supply sergeant and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in late summer of 2003. Her next assignment was to the Group Support Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Liberty, where she served as the supply sergeant. During that tenure she deployed four times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan supply sergeant, Land Movement and Fixed-Wing Transportation noncommissioned officer. SGM Valdez was assessed and selected into the Joint Communication Unit, Fort Liberty, where she served as the battalion J4 (Logistics) noncommissioned officer in charge. During her service there, she assessed for the Special Operations Logistics Support Element, Fort Liberty, where she served as the logistics advisor NCO and senior supply sergeant. Following her assignment there, SGM Valdez was selected to serve in Joint Special Operations Command Intelligence Brigade, Fort Liberty, where she served as the brigade senior supply sergeant. She was then selected to serve as the first non-35 series NCO to serve as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company first sergeant. Upon her selection to the U.S. Sergeants Major Academy, she was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Liberty, where she served as the senior supply sergeant. SGM Valdez has completed eight deployments through CENTCOM and AFRICOM.

SGM Valdez’ military education includes the Sergeant Major Academy Class 73/Distant Learning Course Class 49, Senior Leader Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education II, Nonstandard Logistics Course, Battle Staff, Support Operations Course Phase II, Contracting Officer Representative Course, Combative Training Course Level I, Basic Airborne Course, Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (High Risk), Military Mobile Force Protection Training Course.
